Have you ever experienced folding your laundry and then suddenly realizing they smell nothing but bad? That they don’t smell as fresh as they should? It is obviously frustrating since you just took a whole day to clean them.

As much as we want to immediately find ways to make our laundry smell good, we must first dig into what is causing the problem. What is causing the bad odor? There are several culprits, but let us focus on what are the common ones.

If you look inside and you see molds, then you have to clean them. Hidden areas such as around the door gasket in front loaders and its screen at the side.

One of the best ways to clean your washing machine is to add 2 cups of white vinegar directly into the wash drum. You run it in a wash cycle with the hottest water setting getting rid of the molds and mildew and dissolving mineral deposits. Then once the first wash cycle is done, add 2 cups of EC3 laundry additive to your machine’s detergent tray or just pour it directly into the wash drum.

One note, mold and mildew (at best) can cause bad odors in the machine and on your clothes. But the worst part of it is it could possibly make you sick! It grows because of dirt (and such), builds up bacteria everytime you stop using it. So to make sure you are safe from any bacteria, you better check your machine from time to time and clean it immediately when you notice some molds growing.

Just because they fit into one loading doesn’t mean the machine itself is fit to clean the whole load. Here is the shortcut, overloading your washing machine can keep the clothes from getting washed properly and lead to stinky laundry. They won’t be free to move around and get clean, because they can’t be properly soaked in water and laundry detergent. Moreso, it adds extra-stress to the motor itself and the tub bearings, damaging your appliance in no time.

Think about why there are instructions pasted in front of your machine. Just load it properly and you’ll be good.

As we have discussed, bad smelling clothes were caused by the growth of bacteria and molds. Actually, leaving your wet laundry overnight in the washer is the main cause of bacteria and mold growth. So if you want NO MOLDS AND BACTERIA, you have to keep your wet laundry out in the machine.

It is not just leaving them overnight in the washer that makes the odor, it is also folding them when still damp. Remember when you have to take them off the line or out of the tumble dryer too early. But if your reason is to iron them while they’re still damp, then do it straight away, rather than leaving your ironing pile to mount up.

Too much and Too little is no good for laundry. You have to keep it balanced, or your clothes would never smell clean. Too much detergent creates an opportunity for dirt and mold to stick to the fabric and cause bad odor. It could create more problems, that includes stain or residue on clothes, worst is it will just wear down the machine.  While, on the other hand,  too little detergent doesn’t efficiently clean the dirt off the fabrics (of course, we need not to elaborate this one, too little is just not enough)
